Have we forgotten what love is?
For as long as we have been able to tell stories we've told them about love that knows no boundaries. Love that can withstand anything in its path, overcome and hinderance the old cliche of the all conquering love.
It gives us hope makes us belive that there's something out there worth living for, its like the carrot that dangels in front of us to keep us plodding on through life, much like religion, indeed in this day and age it has been brought up as a kind of religion.
Were constantly surronded by this idea its in the books we read in films we watch, indeed it is generally required for the hero in a film to have a love intrest and many film makers have made writers put in a love intrest for the hero.
Some of the greatest love stories ever told revolve around this idea of the "one true love" only coming round once in a life time, and will only discover it if were extremly lucky. In these talls we see our heros scale impossible mountains and slay a horrible vicious dragon. The idea obviously being that there is nothing they wouldn't do for there true love.
Were brain washed with this tripe from the very begining they even teach us it at school when we study Romeo and Juliet. So isn't it strange then that we throw love away so easily when it comes to us? Wheather it's by actively casting it aside when it proved to be too difficult to hold onto, or wheather it's not fighting hard enough to hold onto it when it is taken from us, we hardly seem to treat it with the importance that we are lead to belive it has. Just a case of better in theory then in practice?
Or maybe it's just the society we live in these days, nothing good on TV change the channel, car trouble? oh trade it in get another, don't like the food in front of you, don''t eat it bin it throw it away. Whats the point in holding onto something that might actually need to be nurtured and cherished in order for it to grow, if its unable to give me what I want, screw it, I'll find something better round the corner. Instant gratification.
Why should love be any differant?
So carry on like you are you'll be fine. That is, of course, intil the day comes that you find yourself, alone sitting in your room staring at the celling wondering what happened - your looks aren't quite what they were when you were younger not quite as appealing to people as you used to be are you, maybe you should of tried to build on it hay?
Sorry I just see it getting wasted everywere I look, pointlessly as well.
Spend your days full of emptiness
Spend your years full of loneliness
Wasting love, in a desperate caress
Rolling shadows of nights
