Is society the next dictator?

"I am going to do this,
I am going to do this,
I am going to do this"

Thats what I heard from a lad this morning when I was walking past a school on the way to work, yes walking I do do a bit of excercise now and again.
It seemed fairly obvious to anybody who could hear him that he really didn't want to go to school that day maybe he was being bullied he looked like a fairly easy target for your average playground bully - glasses fairly chunky and with obvious low self estem, however his mother had just waved him off from the car and had probably told him some meaningless prattle like "he's only bulling you because he is insercure, does he have many friends? no? well why don't you try being nice to him".
So this lad was going to do it because his mother had told him to go even though he didn't want to do it.

I felt sorry for the poor guy then that he would have to endure this for years more as he went through school, then it occured to me that this never changes, you are always recieving orders from people to do what you don't want to do, when your younger its your parents at work it's your boss. I still find myself going to do a job somewhere not going with great expediency to do it, maybe even muttering those same words, the thing is I still go and do it because I have been told to do it.

That's society for you though, orders must be followed otherwise nothing would get done, I wouldn't get my job done which would have a knock on effect (probably resulting in me getting the sack) making other people not able to do any work and then other people not being able to do any and so it would go on.
If that lad didn't go to school and learn something to contribute to society then he wouldn't be a productive member of society.

And if your not a productive member of society your cast off and swept under the metaphorical carpet and just about forgoten about.
After all one cog is easily replaced

There was a episode once of Babyon 5 where a family are visiting the station and they see homeless people on it and the little boy says something about having them on Earth to which one of the parents replies that they don't and the Earth presadant declairing they didn't have any so they didn't. This made me laugh at the time I saw it but it does make me wonder how far we are actually from being like this.

Is society the next dictator? Maybe if so worse then a dictator as it's the masses not just the one or the few
